Who We are

How it all started
Bobo Makasi is a Congolese-born philanthropist and founder of Makasi Rescue Foundation. Bobo’s work as the CEO of Makasi Rescue Foundation has transformed the lives of thousands.
After fleeing the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo at the age of 12, Bobo spent 12 years as a refugee in Uganda. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for helping others and started a soccer team as a means of bringing joy and unity to fellow refugees. This humble beginning laid the foundation for Makasi Rescue Foundation in 2018, which now operates in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the USA.
Through various programs such as the Economic Empowerment Programme, Livelihood Improvement Programme, Advocacy and Communication Programme, Psychosocial Support Programme, Research and Documentation, and Community Outreach, Makasi Rescue Foundation has reached over 5000 refugees and host populations. Bobo’s vision for the foundation is to create a world where every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to live a dignified life with fulfilled rights.
Bobo’s dedication to transforming lives and his commitment to addressing the core needs of refugees and host communities exemplify the power of resilience, compassion, and the ability to create lasting change.
As a founder and philanthropist, Bobo Makasi’s work through Makasi Rescue Foundation is making a significant impact in the lives of those affected by conflict and displacement. His story serves as an inspiration to others and highlights the importance of empowering vulnerable populations and creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.
